The Diamond Sutra · 金刚经

One person, one sutra.一个人,一部经。

A Diamond Sutra written only for you

Thousand-year-old Diamond wisdom cuts through all suffering; the latest AI sees clearly into what you face. What hurts is often not the event itself, but the mind holding on; see that, and the facts remain, but the mind can let go.

Tell us about yourself and the things weighing on you now. The sutra stays word for word; all 32 chapters speak to you, seven of them in depth.

A dream, a flash of lightning, and a cloud—thus we should look upon the world

Chapter 32 · The Manifested Is Not the Real · tr. F. Max Müller, 1894

By tradition, one line of this sutra awakened Huineng, the Sixth Patriarch of Zen. A copy printed in 868 is the oldest dated printed book in the world.

For the one still awake at 2 a.m., and the one whose parents are growing old in another time zone.

One person, four nights

A sample reader: Chuan, 41, a product manager in San Jose. He wrote about four things. Here is what his book says to each.

What the pages look like

  • Sample cover: the title, one line chosen for the reader, and a map of the 32 chapters marking the seven written for them
Cover · one line, and the map of 32 chapters
  • Sample page: a chapter's sutra text and the reflection written for the reader
A chapter for you · text and reflection
  • Sample closing: a short list of things to do, each with the line it comes from
Closing · a few things to do

Three steps · about 15 minutes

  1. 1Name at least two hard things

Work, family, illness, a love that ended, sleepless nights. Trouble rarely comes alone; the more specific you are, the more the book is yours.

  2. 2Tell us a little about you

Your age, your work, a few turning points, all optional. They help the book speak to your own road.

  3. 3Receive your book

Written after you pay. Download the PDF from My Book; three follow-up questions included.

What it holds to

  • The sutra, unchanged

All thirty-two chapters. The AI never rewrites or waters it down.

  • Truth over comfort

It says what the sutra says, including the hard parts. No platitudes.

  • Written for one person

It starts from what you told us. Not a quote sent to everyone.

Not fortune-telling · Not therapy · Not a teacher or a guru

Common questions

Is this written by AI?

The chapters written for you are. The sutra and the commentary are not: the scripture is read straight from the source text and never passes through the model, and every commentary quote is taken from our corpus and checked word for word. A quote that fails the check is deleted.

Which translation do you use?

The English text is F. Max Müller's 1894 translation from the Sanskrit (Sacred Books of the East, vol. 49), in the public domain. The Chinese editions use Kumārajīva's translation of 402. Commentary comes from Huineng, the Sixth Patriarch of Zen (Chan), and from Daochuan of the Song dynasty, quoted in Chinese with an English rendering.

I'm not a Buddhist. Is this for me?

Yes. It asks for no faith and makes no promises about merit, karma or rebirth. It is about how one ancient text looks at what you are facing now.

Will anyone see what I wrote?

No. What you write is stored encrypted, never used for training, never sold, and never sent to third-party analytics. You can delete all of your data at any time from My Book.

How soon do I get the book?

Writing starts as soon as you pay and takes about 30 minutes. We email you when it is ready, and you download it from My Book.

How do I reach you?

Write to hello@1sutra.com. Payment, download, sign-in, or a line in the book that seems wrong: all welcome. We usually reply within two working days. If the price is too much for you, write to us too. Common questions: see Support.
